Crocheted Cupcakes

crocheted cupcakes Follow these easy step-by-step instructions to make crocheted cupcakes. This is a fun crocheting exercise that uses up leftover wool and only takes minutes to make.

The completed piece can be used as a crochet pincushion.

Abbreviations:
ch = chain
Rnd = round
dc = double crochet
ea = each
sl st = slip stitch
re = repeat
st = stitch
tr = treble

You will need:
Scraps of wool in two colors (for base and cake) for cupcake
4.50mm crochet hook
Hobby fill
Beads/buttons (if desired)

Base:
Using main color and 4.50mm crochet hook make 2 ch.
Rnd 1: 6 dc in 2nd ch from hook, sl st to 1st dc.
Rnd 2: 1 ch, * 2dc in ea dc, rep from * to end, sl st to 1st dc (12dc).
Rnd 3: 1 ch, * 2dc in next dc, 1 dc in next dc, rep from * to end, sl st to 1st dc (18 dc).
Rnd 4: 1 ch, * 2dc in next dc, 1 dc in ea of next 2dc, rep from * to end, sl st to 1st dc (24dc).
Rnd 5: 1 ch, * 1dc in the back loop only, repeat from * to end, sl st to 1st dc (24dc).
Rnd 6: 1 ch, * 1 dc in next dc, rep from * to end, sl st to 1st dc (24dc).
Repeat rnd 6, 5 times. Fasten off.

Top:
Using contrast color and 4.50mm crochet hook make 2ch.
Rnd 1: 6dc in 2nd ch from hook, sl st to 1st dc.
Rnd 2: 1 ch, * 2dc in ea dc, rep from * to end, sl st to 1st dc (12dc).
Rnd 3: 1 ch, * 2dc in next dc, 1 dc in next dc, rep from * to end, sl st to 1st dc, (18dc).
Rnd 4: 1 ch, 1 dc in ea dc to end, sl st to 1st dc (18dc).
Rnd 5: 1 ch, * 2dc in next dc, 1 dc in ea of next 2 dc, rep from * to end, sl st to 1st dc (24dc).
Rnd 6: 1 ch, * 1dc in next dc, (1dc, 1tr, 1dc) in next dc, rep from * to end, sl st to 1st dc. Fasten off leaving a long tail.

To join both pieces, stuff base with wadding and place the top on the base. Using the tail, sew the top in place with a running stitch, placing a little more stuffing into the cupcake just before closing the lid to create a rounded top. Fasten off and sew in ends.

Use beads and buttons to decorate the crocheted cupcake, if desired.
