Caterpillar Cupcakes

Big, not-so-scary, creepy, crawly Caterpillar Cupcakes are a huge hit at a little boy's birthday party. There are a couple of different ways to decorate this wiggly line of cupcakes.

My first suggestion uses brightly colored frosting for the caterpillar cup cakes. The other style uses chocolate icing, coated with coconut. I will give you instructions on how to make both. For the brightly colored caterpillar,

You will need:

    caterpillar cupcake
  • Batch of vanilla cupcakes
  • Frosting
  • Food colouring
  • 2 Lollypops
  • Marshmallows

Divide glace frosting or buttercream frosting into four small bowls. Tint bowls red, blue, yellow and green.

Ice equal number of cupcakes in each colour. Arrange cupcakes in a wiggly pattern on a large plate or cake board.

I cut marshmallows in half for eyes on the head cupcake and put either a small, round candy or frosting as the pupils. Two lollypops can be used for antennae. Use marshmallows as legs to all following cupcakes.

For the furry caterpillar,

You will need:

  • Batch of cupcakes
  • Chocolate glace frosting
  • Coconut
  • Liquorice
  • Round Candies
  • 2 Lollypops

Cupcakes are to be iced and sprinkled with coconut.

Arrange cupcakes in a wiggly pattern on a large plate or cake board.

Use candies for eyes on the head cupcake. Two lollypops can be used for antennae. Cut licorice into 3 in. lengths and attach as legs to all following cupcakes.
