Sweet cupcake frostings

by Norma

Hi, What type of frostings are less sweet than others?

for instance buttercream frosting can be very sweet. . ..

Hello Norma

Thanks for your questions about cupcake frostings.

It is one of those things that depends so much on individual tastes. I don't like overly sweet frostings either but others around me say that they are not sweet enough!!

In most frostings you need to use enough confectioners (icing) sugar to make the frosting stiff enough to pipe or spread onto the cupcakes or frosting. The downside is that the more sugar you add the sweeter the frosting/icing becomes.

I find that the easiest thing is to make the frosting so that it is of a piping/spreading consistency and then don't put too much frosting on each cupcake. Less can be best. The last thing you want is the gorgeous cupcake to be overtaken by a too-sweet frosting.

I agree that buttercream can be quite sweet. I use chocolate ganache quite often and I also love cream cheese frosting. With cream cheese frosting the addition of orange or lemon rind gets rid of the sweetness.

I hope this helps.

Regards

Hey, aaaalllll frostings are sweet enough. I don't really like them. Thanks for the advice of using lemon or orange rids. It's interesting to try.

Dear Maybell, if you don't like sweet frostings try to do cupcakes without them but add something in the dough. Little pisses of fruits or black chocolate. I think you'll like it cause my friend from essay writing services reviews doesn't like sweets at all but he loves my cupcakes with chocolate very much!
