Knitted cupcake

To make this knitted cupcake you will need:


8 ply wool in three or four colors
1 pair 3.25mm knitting needles
Polyester filling

Base:
Cast on 5 sts
1st Row: Knit
2nd Row: Inc in first st purlways, P2, inc purlways in next st, P1 ...7 sts
3rd Row: Inc in first st knitways, K4, inc knitways in next st, K1 ...9 sts
4th Row: Inc in first st purlways, P6, inc purlways in next st, P1 ...11 sts
Work 4 rows stocking st.
9th Row: K2tog, knit to last 2 sts, K2tog ...9 sts
10th Row: P2tog, purl to last 2 sts, P2tog ...7 sts
11th Row: K2tog, knit to last 2 sts, K2tog ...5 sts
Cast off purlways.

Cupcake side
Cast on 34 sts
1st Row: * K1, P1, rep from * to end.
Rep 1st Row 3 times ...4 rows rib.
5th Row: * K1, inc purlways in next st, rep from * to end ...51 sts.
6th Row:* K2, P1, rep from * to end.
Knit 3 rows garter st.
Next Row: Cast off knitways.

Cupcake top
Cast on 45 sts
Work 4 rows stocking st.
Change to contrast color and work 4 rows garter st.
9th Row: K1, * K2 tog, K2, rep from * to end ...34 sts.
Work 2 rows garter st.
12th Row: K1, *K2tog, K1, rep from * to end ... 23 sts.
Work 2 rows garter st.
15th Row: K1, K2tog, rep from
* to end ... 12 sts.
Break off yarn leaving a long end. Run end through remaining sts, draw up tightly and fasten off securely.

Strawberry decorative top:
Cast on one st.
1st Row: (K1, P1) 3 times all into same st ... 6sts.
2nd, 4th and 6th Rows: Purl
3rd and 5th Rows:Knit
7th Row: Sl 3 purlways, K3tog, p3sso ... one st.
Break off yarn, thread end through remaining st, gather around edges to form a bobble shape and fasten off. Leave end for attaching strawberry.

Flower decorative top:
Cast on 35 sts.
1st Row: * K1, cast off next 5 sts, K1 (this st already on right-hand needle), rep from * 4 times ...10 sts.
Break off yarn leaving a long end. Run end through remaining sts, draw up tightly and fasten off securely.

Make up:Using a wool needle and mattress st seam, join the short ends of Cupcake side to form a ring. Join short sides of Cupcake top to form a circle. Lining up seams, slip-stitch Cupcake top to inside of the side on the first garter st row. Fill cake firmly with polyester filling. Slip stitch base to cast-on edge of Cupcake side. Sew in all ends. Decorate cakes using strawberries or flowers and you choice of bullion st, French knots or as desired.
