Cream Cheese Filling

Cream Cheese Filling is great with carrot cake, banana cake, red velvet cake, pumpkin cake and the list goes on... and on... and on.

This recipe is for a plain filling, however, it is easy to both color and flavor. This cupcake filling can be spread or piped onto cakes and cupcakes as the consistency is perfect for either.

Once you make the creamy filling and you see how easy it is to make and how fantastic it tastes you will want to experiment with colors and flavors.

This filling is suitable for cakes, cupcakes, whoopie pies and can be mixed with cake crumbs to make cake pops.

If you are piping the filling into your cupcakes this recipe will be suitable, however, if you are going to spread the filling, you may need to add a little extra confectioners sugar as you will want the texture to be a little stiffer.

If you want a sweeter taster, add 2 tbsp honey to the mixture.

  • 8oz (250g) cream cheese
  • 2 cups confectioners (icing) sugar
  • 1 tsp vanilla essence


Place all ingredients in the small bowl of an electric mixer and cream together until light and fluffy.


Maple: add 3 tbsp maple syrup

Citrus: add 1 tbsp lemon or orange juice or if you want the filling to have a little more flavor also add grated rind.

Colored: add a drop of food coloring to frosting until you reach the desired color.
